Preparing Your Home

Preparing Your Home for the Guests

December 28, 2017

Many families are expecting guests in their Milton, Florida, home throughout the season. Although there is a lot of joy in having guests visit, don’t forget to prep your home properly before your guests arrive.

Prevent High Utility Spikes

Guests can lead to unpredictable and high utility bills. Although it’s hard to prevent a higher utility bill, be conscious of saving energy. If it’s chilly, consider using space heaters in guest rooms instead of cranking up the heat in the whole house. Consider a couple of nightlights for the house so guests can make their way at night without having to keep on bathroom or hallway lights.

Make Guests Feel at Home

Having house guests is always a little challenging for you, but it’s also difficult for the guests as well. If you have family or friends visiting, take a few extra steps to make sure they feel at home. Have clean towels available and toiletries in the bathroom in case they forget something or couldn’t travel with their bigger liquids. Be conscious of food allergies or specific tastes when preparing a meal. Finally, make sure the home is clean and organized for their arrival.

Pay Attention to Air Quality

Having guests in your home can make it hard to prevent poor IAQ in your home, which means it’s essential to pay extra attention. With the added cooking in your home, make sure to ventilate your kitchen while you cook. Wipe down surfaces often, sweep, and vacuum to prevent dust and dirt from accumulating. If the weather is mild enough, try to keep the windows open to keep fresh air coming into the home as well.
